Visit of the Rouen Opera to Jersey

From 30 June to 1 July, the teams of the Rouen Opera met with their counterparts in Jersey.  On 30 June, the team met with representatives of the Jersey Opera House and the Government of Jersey on the European cultural event ‘2027 – Millennium European Year of the Normans’. The project is a year-long cultural programme, led by the Normandy region to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the birth of William the Conqueror and the legacy of the Normans across Europe. In this context, Le Ballet de J’èrri will tour in Caen for their performance ‘Dileberate Mistake’ in partnership with the Opéra de Rouen and the Caen orchestra in 2027. Representatives from Guernsey Arts joined the exchanges via video call and discussed ongoing projects and future collaboration with the respective teams.

On 1st July, the Norman delegation attended a rehearsal of the Ballet d’Jèrri and discussed future artistic cooperation with the Jersey Arts Centre. Exciting projects for 2027 and beyond!

This visit demonstrates the Channel Islands’ growing enthusiasm and commitment to the Millennium celebrations. The Channel Islands join the United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Southern Italy, and Belgium to mark 2027 through more than 80 projects spanning education, culture, academia, arts, music and many more. On 2-3, the official programme of the Millennium will be launched at the ladies’ Abbey in Caen.
